Feeling twitchy......

HI All,

I've recently switched from SO2's to TOYO Proxes T1-R tyres on the rear of my Grif.

My car hasn't yet covered 30K miles, and is a 1994 model - looking at the receipts the rears haven't been changed for 5 years and were as hard as nails.

The improvement in grip is outstanding, but the car now feels slightly twitchy at speed. Sounds strange, I know, but what would you recommend for getting it checked out?

The car is running on GAZ adjustables which were fitted <2K ago and up until the tyre change seemed fine. At the moment it seems to 'skip' left to right as if being blown by heavy wind.

Any advice would be greatly received.

Get Guglielmi at Daventry to check it out, maybe geo check is in order, or dampers resetting.

Hi Martin, I have just fitted Toyo Proxes TR-1 to the rear of my Pre cat griff & I find them fine. Make sure your tyre pressure is not to high, the tyre fitter tried to put 36 PSI in mine untill I told him they only need 24PSI! I also had Bridgestones prior to the Toyos, they had been on the car for 6 yrs.

Gazman - 'Guglielmi at Daventry' is that TVR Power?

Phil - At the risk of admitting I'm a dumbass I didn't check the pressures, just assumed that with the grip I was getting they were low enough. That'll be the first thing I check when I roll her back out the garage. Just to confirm, are you running 245 45 16's?

On another note, if anyone is looking for Toyos, I got mine from www.mytyres.co.uk - £92 each, plus about £10 postage for 2. Came direct from Germany in about 5 days.

Heard this from a couple of people now, one who changed from so2 to so3 and some else who's swapped to toyo's.. seems to last for a bit then fade away..
there was lots of discussion a while back about running tires in with some heat cycles, but from wht people have said to me it lasts a bit longer than that.. no harm in check stuff out but I'm sure a little time will see it running as before..

The Toyo's will take about 500 - 1000 miles to get the best out of them.... first few hundred miles they aint too good

No Guglielmi motor sport in Daventry, I take on board that some of these tyres are a bit iffy till they get bedded in but if you also want the car checked out Steve is your man, just don't go round the block with him, he is the ex tuscan race champion and boy can he handle a car, ask Hoover?

BTW I ran the Toyos on 26 rear and 24 front at the suggestion of forum members and I agreed it felt better.

Thanks everyone, I will check out the pressures and have emailed Steve to ask if I can pop along with the car some time in the future.

I'll post what results I get.

I had S03s,then tried the t1-r,thought i had made a big mistake,the car was all over the place,after a few hundred mile they are alot better.
