Cam replacement questions ...

I have a couple of questions reference my current rebuild of the top end .. For info, I will retain hydraulic lifters and my cam choice will reflect this.

What tension should be on the timing chain ?

Would you replace the push rods when replacing the cam and followers ?

What is the best way to run in a new cam, those first 10 mins are crucial ?

It isn't adjustable. Use new timing gears and chain and it will be correct.
Not unless they were worn.
Make sure you set the preload correctly and lubricate the cam and followers.
For the first 20 minutes ensure the revs stay over 2000 rpm at all times. Don't let it idle.

Might be worth checking your rockers whilst your in there,not only the pads,but also the cup where the rod contacts with the rocker.If your choosing a cam that will allow you to rev higher,then you might want to improve on the original rockers?

One of the cam makers ( I think it is Kent) has a lot of info about fitting and running in. I printed it all off and "filed it somewhere safe", worth a look at.

Realised non adjustability, just trying to understand what tolerane they do work too, imagine I will replace as a matter of course, but worth knowing....
