HELP WITH GRIFF TYRES PLEASE

I have just gone through the same problem also.
It seems the only option available for the stock rims are Dunlop SP9000 on the front which are currently the only W rating or better available that are not trackday tyres (R888 and yokohama's will fit but they are track tyres and not good on wet roads)
Dunlop don't do a matching rear size but you can still get Toyos and Bridgestones for the rears, so you're going to have to mix the make and tread pattern if you keep the stock rims. I didnt like the idea of doing that so i am off to have aftermarket 17" fitted this afternoon.

Went through this myself, and spent a very interesting afternoon phoneing all the relevent people, insureres, GOV, MOT etc.
Insurers are happy if the tyres are road legal...they don't have to be rated for the max speed of the car, just legal for use in the UK.
The Road Traffic Government people don't care either - they just have to be rated for the max speed in the UK - currently 70mph.
MOT cares even less, just the normal, not bald split etc.
So just fit any V rated tyre of your choice. After all, how often do you do more that 149mph?

Note that on the wheel size issue the later cars were fitted with 16" front wheels so no problems there.

It's easy to think that but you need to be very wary. IMHO the law is very sensible here: your tyres need to be suitable for the vehicle and suitable to the use to which it is being put. This little statement can work both ways but surely it's much easier, safer and more rewarding to fit the best tyres that you can?

It's very hard to suggest good alternatives to bluebottle's post.

Juis got back home with a nice set of split rim spiders (7.5x17) and toyo proxes fitted(F215/40/17 & R245/40/17). All in fitted with nnew studs and spacers etc £895 - bargain I thought :-)
I seem to recall that Ballistic Banana contacted his insurers with regard to putting v rated tyres on his car and was told if he had an accident that all the excuse the insurers need to get out of a claim.
I've just put Toyo T1_R V rated on the front (replacing W rated T1_S's). I've done this as I reckon the performance of the Toyo's should still be better than the higher speed rated Dunlops. I run T1_R's on the rear, which are anyway the higher W speed rating (for reasons I don't understand - presumably a question of marketing rather than construction?).
I insure through Sunninghill (with Chaucer) and they are happy to continue cover on the road, but have withdrawn track day cover. I thought about explaining that (theoretically) it was far easier to exceed 149 on a public road than on track (corners tend to get in the way), but then realised I might end up with no cover whatsoever!
For track use I'll either take out competition cover or acquire a spare set of wheels running R888's.

I've just had new Toyo Proxes put on mine all round (standard Grif 500 PAS sizes, 15" 225, 16" 245) to replace the Bridgestones on before. Even though they were brand new I drove it 230 cautious miles home today (half in the pi55ing rain) and they seemed pretty capable. New tyres on a Griff in the damp can often be a bit unnerving whilst the tyres bed in.
