The body of the cigarette lighter came out with my Sat Nav plug in attachment yesterday when it had no business doing so!! Looking down the hole (ahem) it appears that the inside part has slipped through to the bottom of the recess. The top part appears to have a screw thread on it however I cant get the 2 parts close enough to se if this works.

I havent had a chance to check the 'Bible' yet but has anyone any experience of this situation? It looks as though I will have to take off the bottom leather covered door part which huses the cigarette lighter to see if i can get them to mate.

Any advice appreciated....

I've heard of this a few times before mate.I suspect it might be a door panel off job.Hopefully someone will post details of a shortcut!

Had this problem on my chim when i bought the car. The bottom part just screws into the top part - they seem to come undone over time and the lower part drops into the door. Problem is it is a door panel off job - on the Chim you need arms that break in about 5 places as you need to put your arm through the speaker hole almost up to your sholder to get to the nuts that hold the panel on - not sure about the Griff....

Assuming the Griff usies similar fixings - If you do have a go yourself, get some 8mm (I think?) wing nuts to replace the normal hex nuts with - this makes getting the panel off again much easier - no spanner required!

Yep, same on the Griff except It is obligatory to scrape some skin off your knuckles and arm before the trim will come off

Not sure about the Griff but do have experience of this on the Chimaera.

Need to take out the speaker first and have a long sleeved top on to prevent the fibre glass from sticking into you. Tools for the job are a basically a 10mm spanner. A small spanner with a in-built racthet would be best. (if you are really lucky they will only be hand tight, but would recommend tightening them back up properly)

When you get your arm inside the door you can feel the long bolts coming through. Will probably need to get at least 3 off to release the bottom bit of trim. Do not need to fully remove it. First one is in the front corner of the door and the others will be coming through along the top of the trim which runs along the bottom of the door. And be very careful not to drop the nuts in the bottom of the door. Once you have the trim released it is easy to screw the lighter back together again.

Quite an easy job, just a little awkward. Hope this helps!

Digging up an old thread for info - my cigarette lighter is broken (in two parts it seems) so it might be repairable reading the above. But, in case it's not, is the replacement socket a generic (eBayable) item or something more specific?

It's repairable, as described it undoes after some time especially if used for sat nav, cigarettes etc . . . Just get it apart and screw back together. . .

You guys were correct, it had just unscrewed itself. However, after getting it back together it still doesn't work - any suggestions? I ran out of time so will have another pop later. Yes, like a prat I put it all back together without testing it, so will have to get the panel off again.
BTW - I did have a quick look at the fuse panel (I assume it's fused) but none were blown (Have glow jobbies and none were lit).
