last couple of weeks i've been doing a truckload of searches on PH. i've actually ventured out of the sanctity of the grif board and noticed a few things. 
primarilly, those who have less than brand new non-griff TVR's (say 2004 or earlier) are not happy with their car. this is obviously a generalisation but tuscan mk 1 owners (driving a s6 seems to be like walking a minefield), cerb owners (expenditure is so vast), early T350/tamora (woes with engine and build quality) all seem a bit disillusioned.
in contrast, griff owners are, to a man, more pleasant (the cerb board has a tinge of 'max power' about it), probably more well off and are generally enjoying their car far more!
i've always seen the cerb as my favourite TVR in design, but in truth, its engine is completely flawed (both types), its probably too performance-driven to be a solid everyday car and it has a hard top!
reading 'the griffith story' and many profiles of PH members, there are very very few griff owners with anything other than heaped praise when commenting on the car. as an introduction to TVR i can see nothing better than a pre-cat, and even though my car is currently in the garage (not because of my ownership) i don't think i'd want any other TVR...excpet maybe a genuine 4.3 BV

one piece of advice. if you haven't already, BUY THE STEVE HEATH GRIFFITH (& chim) BOOK! its the second edition with the blue chim cover found at www.tvrbooks.co.uk only £30ish quid. could save you a shitload
i should have bought this before i bought my griff. it has a really good buyers guide and everything you need to know about the car and ownership. only problem is the missus wont like you new non-social ways

I see you are in Birmingham, get yourself along to the next Midlands meet. There is a change of venue this month as the usual venue is closed for refurb. It will be at the The Griffin Inn (appropriatly), Nuneaton - 21st of May, Midday Onwards.
There will be lots of willing owners there who will show you a Griff. I can take you out in mine and show you some of the good and bad points.

I do think they were 749's as well because I remember Carrie-Ann saying she learnt to ride a bike for some shots but a stunt rider did most of them and she rode a 749 as it was easier. I'm not sure what the stunt rider used whether it was a 749, 996 or 998 as in the film all the bikes are marked up as 998's like the one below.

Think your right about the Griff.
I've had mine 3 years now and it's been reasonable cost wise. My mate has just sold his Cerbera, he got it the same time as me and recons to have spent about ten grand. Horrendous really when you consider the miles he's done. Infact he got so pi**ed off i doubt if he will ever buy another TVR.
On the subject of bikes i have an 888 sp5 and Aprilia Rsvr, But after a ride an a 999 i'm almost converted. Yes it's butt ugly but that Testastretta engine.......
And it's much more comfortable than my old 748 sp.

You could save even more by having a look at Amazon where they often sell the Bible for £19.65 inc P&P, though why they should do this I have no idea - they buy them from the TVRCC and so make a loss on every one!!
