Hi all together,

the dashboard of my 4.3 gives it up means the wooden layer gets more an more cracks. since i don´t want to take it out of the car before a new one is ready for built in i am desperately seeking for some kind of template or negative or how ever you call that. I mean simply a piece of f.e. paper or wood or whatever from which i can get the form for a new dash.

Is there anybody out there who can help me ?

Many thanks in advance and the best greetings from Germany

The only solution if you want to replace 'like with like' is to take it out and send it to London Carriage Craft for a reveneer - costs around 160 plus VAT.
The veneer is glued onto a thin steel backing sheet which has all the mounting brackets for instrumrnts and switches attached - so unless you're prepared for alot of work and effort producing a new backing sheet the removal, reveneer and refit route is the only way to go. LCC can usually turn them round in about tendays or so. Give Malcolm Hall at LCC a call - top bloke.

You can always do it yourself, not rocket science!! just need patience and time. Look in the wedge pages forum, I did this on mine over 2 years ago and is still fine, much cheaper and interesting too. Regards Dave

I was going to change my dash, then cancelled the plan. So I have a nice piece of figured ash veneer, firmly fixed to an ally sheet substrate, grain filled and with several coats of aerosol varnish applied. Offers invited :-)

ask myself why it is really so hard to get some support from the island. just nobody there who can give some or just no interest in giving some ?

Hi Jerko,

If you can't spare the time to take it out, send it off to LCC, wait ten days or so to get it back and then refit it - then your next best option is to contact bellshill or douglas valley or other breakers to get a secondhand one, have it reveneered and then fit it in place of your existing cracked one.

If you insist on following the template route then take yours out, trace it, note the brackets, etc. and get one made locally. Personally this would be my least favourite option BUT you pays your money and you takes your choice.

NOTE:- Early Griffith dashes are different from the later 500s - different instrument sizes, etc.
