Speedo Problem at 20 mph

Afternoon,

The speedo on my Griffith does not register until about 20mph. I've cleaned and checked the sensor gap on the rear drive shaft and that seems ok.

I was going to remove the speedo head and clean in case there is a mechanical resistance within the head itself.

Any ideas please.

It does exactly the same on mine and has done since I bought it. Throughout the rest of the speed range it is within 1 mph compared to the GPS readout. As less than 20 mph is not the domain of a griff! to be honest I have just left alone.

don´t bother, mine does it exactly the only correct way. simply shows nothing under 20 mph (except 0 mph/kmh but that absolutely correct :-)) it´s really not the griffs thing to show speeds small like that i think. hopfully yours shows correct top-speeds. mine has had only 235 km/h on the speedo when driving against a bmw z4 3.0 with absolute top speed (his speedo was 265) on a "simply hold your gaspedal down for 5 minutes motorway/autobahn". wondered if a 4.3 griff is really that fast... going to test its din-hps within the next months

Mine used to do that, and it was the gap that was too big between the sensor and the toothed wheel. I managed (with the wheel removed) to losen the nut and turn the sensor so it was touching the wheel and then give it a fraction of a turn so that it just clears it. With the backend on stands if you get someone to then turn the other back wheel by hand you can check to make sure the sensor doesn't touch (incase the toothed wheel is slightly out of shape). If all looks good, you can then (if your brave - I was) start the car and put it in first to check if the speedo then works. Mine has been perfect ever since (a good year or so back).

my mechanic set the gap to 4mm where as the dealer told me only about 1-2mm.
