My defection is complete, and my lack of attendence to todays Mid Essex meet means I have spent all day polishing, waxing, cleaning and general tinkering. So hello to you all here and after 36 hours of ownership of a griff 500 all I can say is wow! what a machine!!
She's a 99 T in Cureton Green with parchment leather and covered 13700 miles
PS: How hard is it to get the roof in the boot!!!! - guess I am used to the Chimaera

Hi Martin , welcome to the hairy chested medallion wearing non golf playing dark side... Griffith ownership ![]()
Are you swapping the Chimear wheels onto your Griffith? reckon they would look just fine.

Nope, the Griffs got a perfect set of Estorils, so their for sale with the Chimaera, see www.tonygilbertcars.co.uk. To be honest feel I little more responsible for keeping the Griff original, that can't be that many around in such a low mileage original condition.

The roof is all down to technique. Slip the cover on and fold the excess material around at the opening end, this puts the thicker Velcro bit out of the way, Feel along the long sides to find the indent that fits over the locating pin at the top of the windscreen. Once you have found this pick it up with the indent towards the ground and the concave ( inside) side facing you.
Offer up the passenger side first, and slide it all the way to the left, the right hand side should now drop in. to ensure there is clearance for the lid to close pull the bottom (actually the front) towards you a bit.
After a bit of practice you will find fitting the cover is more hassle than getting it in the boot. An absolute doddle compared to all the tent poles on one of those Lotus things, that did get me confused.
Oh and don’t let anybody convince you that the engine needs fiddling with, it is quite good enough as it is and won't work properly afterwards.

I changed because I stupidly walked in to Fernies one afternoon for a browse. Drew took me out in a Grif 500 and that was it - i wanted to defect!
Hood does drive me nuts - I can't get it out without removing the boot seal - still got the next couple of days off work to practice and generally tinker
