watt bulbs in instruments

Can't help with "Watt" bulbs but if it's the clock you can just reach it via the glove box (i only needed to put the wire back on )

I replaced all my bulbs last year, I'll have a look at the old ones tonight, if no-one's come up with the answer before then. I'm pretty sure they weren't 5w though. I seem to remember identical looking bulbs in a 5w rating for sidelights or something.

By the way mine had green 'swimming caps' - which I removed!

I met Ian this morning and one of his bulbs had a green hat and looked similar to side light bulb (with wire on the outside of the glass and looks very fragile).

Dunno if it helps but the instrument illumination in mine was all mini-capless at 2w each until I stuck a 4w one in the speedo to match the brightness of everything else. Worked a treat too.

I've changed all the bulbs now.
These were the originals..


The bottom W5W bulb was in every instrument and the top two came from two different clocks [ticking type], and as FFG said, they both had little green swimming caps on!

These are the bulbs I replaced them with:

and these for the clock, with the swimming cap transferred...


I have no idea if this is good, bad or indifferent because I've only just got the dash back in and haven't been out in the car since, but the point of the exercise was to replace all the bulbs so I have spares and I don't have to go pulling the dash apart again in a hurry. I'll let you know how they look if summer ever returns and I get the chance to go for a night time drive.
