Not looking to sell my car but i've been looking at Griff adverts on PH over the last month or so and there have been some really nice cars on for what seems decent money. The cars dont seem to be selling that well.
Are people going off Griffs or are too many for sale at the moment ?

Couple that with the alarm and despondancy about TVR in the media recently, and its hardly surprising that people aren't flocking to invest their money in one.
It's a good time for buyers though, there's a few nice cars around for reasonable prices.
If the rain persists, who knows I may even stick mine up for sale.

raining There are normally 30-50 Griffs for sale on PH - 39 at the moment, so I don't think sellers are flooding the market. I think cars generally are cheap. I bought my Griff nearly 3 years ago and was considering a Griff, early 90s Esprit or 80s 911. These cars are still price competitors with the Griff, so they're cheaper too. Chims have taken a tumble though, which has probably pulled Griff prices down.
I'd be surprised if the current TVR predicament is causing people to get cold feet about a Griff - they're totally maintainable outside the manufacturer support network. I guess some buyers may not realise this however, and hold off.
In fact if anything, with the Griff being regarded as a true classic, anything from a mainstream manufacturer over the last 5-10 years being generally very complicated - or at least specialist to work on (with associated running costs as they get older), and the owner/maintainer appeal of the V8s, I think there's a good chance that Griffs won't get much cheaper. But I might be worng...

Its certainly a buyers market, I bought mine for £12600 6 weeks ago, a 500 1996, and there were a lot of cars to choose from, similarly my S2 has been up for sale for 2 months, I paid £6700 for it 2 years ago, spent £2k on it, as you do, and sold it today for £6500, in fact I had no enquiries at all for it until just over a week ago, so I think a good spell of sunshine will do the sellers market the world of good, people know that the summer is just around the corner, but with a few days off warm weather I`m sure they will start spending.

I'm currently looking for a griff but personally I think alot of the private sales are priced to far up around the dealer price range and there are none that really grab me for that money presently, guess I'll have to be a patient boy...
anyone got a stunner lying around?

But buying and owning a Griff has nothing to do with whatever TVR the company is or isn't doing. TVR aren't interested in any model that's not in production, and actively cover up and/or destroy their heritage. The company's official history obviously avoids any mention of the Griffith, Chimaera or Rover V8 - three things that brought TVR from a quirky outfit that people thought made kit cars or was some kind of Triumph, to what it was a few years ago.
Furthermore, the market for second-hand Griffs is entirely different from the people lining up to spend £50K+ on the latest ugly Speed 6 design (Tuscan 2 excepted, it just needs a V8

But buying and owning a Griff has nothing to do with whatever TVR the company is or isn't doing. TVR aren't interested in any model that's not in production, and actively cover up and/or destroy their heritage.
You and I both know that, but unless a person has made a study of TVR's it may not be so obvious.
Recently I've had a number of people speak to me about my Griff, saying "How are you going to get spare parts now TVR have gone bust"
I do point out the error of their ways, but I can only do so much single handed
The general public, and to a great extent prospective Griff/Chim buyers, tend to view TVR like Ford or Rover, if the parent company is in trouble they don't want to invest their money in a 2nd hand car that they can't get any spares for.
Ignorance, I know, but it doesn't help the 2nd hand market
