Engine oil quantity and dipstick level

I'd appreciate some guidance please. I've just done my first engine oil and filter change on the Griff; it's a '98 500. After refilling with 5l, starting the car and then letting oil drain back down for 15 min the level was still below min. To get it to midway between min and max I've added a total of 5.3l

Bible says approx 5l, so question is should I add further oil to get it just below max or do I have an odd reading dipstick (seems unlikely)and run it midway?

Before the oil change I was running the car keeping the level just below max.

Takes 5 1/2 - 6L with a filter change IIRC

The filter I use take a litre to fill so I normally end up sticking about 6L in mine.

Sounds like your dip stick is about right. Make sure it's pushed all the way in and top it up with oil.

Thanks for replies. Filter I used was the short one but sounds as if I need to add another 300ml or so to hit the max.
