ECU - How hot is yours...??

Hi chaps,
Went for a blat today (about 30 miles round trip) and the beast ran like a bag of spanners...whilst it was warming up it was hesitating really bad, and sometimes kangarooing like it had bad fuel or something and then when it reached temp it was OK under throttle but at around 2k revs with light throttle it wasnt happy (much worse than the usual hesitation). I then got home and thought an ECU reset may help and the top of the ECU was red hot (too hot to touch)? I am sure this isnt the norm but it is a very hot day, but i dont see why this should effect the ECU in its 'dark corner'??
I would appreciate it if someone when they have just returned from a run, could place there hand on top of th ECU and tell me if its hot!!
