I took the exhaust manifolds off last night in preparation for the ACT ones going on...

And found some cracked blocks of rubber. Once upon a time, I presume they were engine mounts...

Are they still Rover SD1 mounts on the later cars? Where can I get them? And are there any worthwhile upgrades?

Thanks. Was hoping you'd say there was a polyurathane or something set just been designed and made...

Don't think I'll have time to do that before the Growl this year!

You two are bothering me a bit.
I had read on previous threads that at least 1 engine mount was susceptable to heat degradation due to its' position near the manifold, but I have never checked my 96 500.
Can somebody describe where this particular mount is situated and whether it can be seen with the bonnet up (or from underneaththe car) sufficient to decide if it needs changing.

Thanks, Paul

Either you'll find it under the manifolds from above, if have good look with a torch...

Would have thought both would see similar heat from the manifolds TBH. (However, the exhaust does run under the LHS one) They're just about visible if you peer through the manifolds.

Don't worry too much - my Griff's done 97,000 miles so it's allowed to need the odd new part!

Good luck on the manifolds, put a set of Tims on the 5.5-TOOK 7.5 HOURS! from taking off the old ones to fitting the "go faster" ones.
Be carefull with engine mounts, just fitted some aftermarket ones they have only been on the car for 1.5 weeks ,just come back from LeMans and they have failed and caused the engine to drop which allowed the main battery lead to the starter motor to get cought and short out producing some impressive smoke inside the car as all the battery cables went up big time, only saved the car by switching the battery cutout off in the nick of time.
I would after this experence only use the OEM Metzler mounts.I am waiting for the supplier to pick up my Griff to sort it out as its a bit of a mess and needs new carpets, wiring ,dash etc!
