Suggestions Please...

Car = Griffith 500

Problem = When starting off in first gear (and also whilst engaging second) there is a noticable resistance coming from the rear driver side (wheel area - but not necessarily wheel).

Its as though something is rubbing the wheel and trying to resist the wheel turning. Then it is ok once momentum has been gathered.

Happens more when warm - happens at worst after I've stopped and then set off again after I've been driving hard.


Any suggestions as to the cause ?

Could be a sticking caliper. Do you have excess brake dust on alloy, or can you smell burning around that area, or is the alloy very hot?

No excess dust or burning.

We recently changed the pads and discs and know that the calipers are working freely.

This problem stretches back before the brake changes aswell.

I don't think this is the solution.

Any noise from the Diff ? does the Diff have any oil in it ?

No noticable noise but I'll check the oil.

Have you tried jacking the rear up after a run to see if the wheel rotate freely?

No - I don't have the mental capacity to think of simple things like that.

just an idea, but if you did the brakes recently, did you adjust the piston properly for the handbrake adjustment??

Yeah - the guy who did most of the work is well sorted in this area of mechanics. I have no doubt that this isn't the problem.
