400 and 250

Can anyone explain please ? I've seen this badging on a Griff 400 engine but I thought the output was 240bhp ? (Someone will correct me if I'm wrong). Does this mean the engine was lightly breathed on, and if so by whom and how many were thus treated ? Or am I just having a bad day ?

My engine has these numbers on the badge stuck on the plenum chamber. From a build sheet supplied by TVR and work I had done on similar engines. These engines were uprated from TVR. This included an uprated TVR camshaft, double valve spring and gasflowed and ported cylinder heads.

I think you'd best stick with the bad day theory. The 400 refers to the volume - 4,000cc as per the badging of Mercs.

Not wishing to start an argument here, but the 400 '250' only had additional gasflowed heads, it came with standard TVR51 cam and valve springs to my knowledge. Although it is indeed possible that your car came with other stuff seeing as it seems each car it pretty unique..

Thanks guys, and yes I did realise the 400 relates to displacement not power, so only having an averagely bad day.
