Having spent over 12 grand over the last 3 years on my 1994 Griff 500 i was finally looking forward to a summer on the open road. Sadly, following some brief episodes of coolant leakage, my friendly local mechanic has informed me that the car needs some further respite back in the garage due to a cracked liner. I've taken his word for it and foolishly or not replaced the entire engine.
Therefore i am now lumbered with my old engine. This has never previously caused me any problems. Its a completely standard pre-serp 500 with 62000 on the clock, no oil leaks and a recent rolling road figure of 267bhp for what its worth. The heads have pressure tested ok and the head gasket was intact.
My question is what do i do with it? Do i endeavour to dismantle it and sell it for parts on e-bay/pistonheads. I've tried the breakers and they don't want it. I'm no mechanic and have only a vague idea which bits are worth anything. As to how much these bits are worth i'd be guessing. Or do i sell it as a lump? Failing that do i just pop it in my living room and use it as a raher expensive coffee table and constant reminder of the ups and downs of Griff ownership? Suggestions/advice greatly appreciated.

If you want rid of it, I have space in my garage. I could do with a hobby project and I haven't stripped an engine for a while. Not since Uriel and I went at a Cologne V6.

Might be worth mentioning it over at the kit cars forum, or on www.locostbuilders.co.uk. There's a few mad buggers there that like to shoehorn big lumps into little cars

Thanks for the replies. Sounds like selling the whole lot as a unit is the best idea. Car and engine still sitting in the garage, due for collection any day now. Will find out what sort of state it's in shortly, get some photos taken etc.. and get back to those interested. Almost certainly was a cracked liner due to years of mild overheating; poor radiator, cooling system etc. Thanks again.

I'm not bloody surprised he's friendly - £4K a year is outrageous!
