I've been curious about that too. Walnut dash is cracking/lifting and needs sorting. With the dash removed it would be an opportune time to add a start button if it's possible??!
Presumably you'd have to notify your insurance as this would be a modification, but would the addition of a button make the car more or less secure ??

Yup, I fitted one as part of the Mod-Wise hot-start kit. I guess it was, to all intents and purposes, an unnecessary addition but for the fact that the motor can now be cranked without the ignition being turned to the 'on' position. This allows you to spin the engine without introducing fuel or sparks; which I have needed to do in the past.
Anyway, perhaps Thursday sometime, I'll get a shot snapped off and posted or if you're gonna be at the Growl, you can have a look for yourself.

Like this you mean...
Should be no more / less secure than the standard Vauxhall switch. Still requires the key, just moves the position of the starting trigger
Immobiliser still operative
Not sure what make of switch it was, but good old RS components are bound to have one

The best position is the boot opening switch,easily moved, in my case under the steering binacle, not the same switch of course, that would be a bit "big". Any "momentry" switch of 7 amps will do for the boot opening, or go for a relay in the circuit and you could go down to 100ma. I have an "engine start" of course ! hardly ever use it but wired corectly, is quite cool, press and hold, it automatically disengages as the engine starts and the light goes out, simply monitor the "charge light" for the earth return for a relay. I can give details of how to wire it for any "max power" kids, like myself.

I believe the codes for the switch units are:
319-360 for latching (lights etc) £2.04 each
319-354 for momentary (boot) £2.06 each
Don't forget (like I did) the black caps 319-411 for pack of 5 off £1.05
Best just check those numbers though as I don't have my invoice to hand, just their catalogue
