Anyone out there have any experience of replacing the oil seals on the earlier GKN type diff,(the one with the ribbed casing ). I have had a slight weep from I think the nose seal for a couple of years which may be getting worse,Have checked the breather and appears OK. Any problems in removing the drive flanges, collapsible spacers etc? Any info apreciated.

Asked Peninsular to change the pinion (nose) oil seal on my SEAC during a service but when I got the car back (a week late) thay had forgotton to do it (even though they had told me the job was done and I only found out cos I noticed the propshaft had not been removed!) They then took it back for a second attempt and guess what - its now worse than ever so I have given up and will have it done by someone who knows what they are doing. In fact if I hadnt decided to have some other work done on the car I would have had a go myself. £600 is a lot of money to change a £25 oil seal - suggest you shop around - try David Gerald - they have a "racing" Griff so should know what they are doing!

I had a very leaky diff and some of the shims had collapsed on my 4.0 Griff. I took it to a gearbox/axle company (Goucester Rd Gearboxes) who sorted it no problem. Although it's a LSD it's nothing clever and any reputable Gearbox company should sort it out. I am not sure of the cost cos I had shed loads of other stuff done (New Clutch, 2nd Gear Synchro, New Gearbox seals and full Exhaust system).
