HELP!!! Electrical Problem

Just went to go out in my Griff started without a problem, turned it off. Got back in turned the key, nothing. There is no power to the ignition, ive checked the fuses, power to the starter and the main engine fuse all ok, i would look in 'the bible' but its in the boot which i cant open!!!!! I assume i need to bypass the alarm to confirm thats not the problem?? Any Ideas anyone??

When you say no power to the ignition, do you mean no red ignition light and silence when you turn the key or is the red light on, though i suppose if the boot switch isnt working it must be the former.

Silly question, but have you waggled the battery terminals.

Yes there are no lights at all on the dash, i did have a little wiggle of the wires, looking at prvious posts i think is gonna be the imobiliser!! Which is nice

Not so sure about the immobiliser being the problem. The immobiliser (I think assuming its a Meta) has three basic circuits one for ignition, one for starter and one for the fuel pump. I’ve had problems with the starter circuit the symptoms are classic hot start, but both ignition and fuel pump still worked. If yours was ignition then I would except you’d still here the fuel pump and probably the boot release should still work, unlikely all three should fail. I suppose the ignition could be an override control for all the dash electrics as well.

I’m no expert so if you still suspect the immobiliser I would get in touch with Metaman Carl at www.tvruk.tv very helpful guy.

Hi yes the lights and windows work fine, ive just put an earth jump lead from the chassis to the engine just in case its an erth fault, nothing. Gonna give the alarm bloke a call me thinks, ill just try and test the igntion switch first

Jester, its either the main 100 amp fuse ddown by the starter motor or the ignition fuse.

I have had this twice in the last 2 months caused by cooked starter motor.

Thanks for all the response's!! I spoken to Carl at Meta alarms Top bloke, unfortunatly its none of the fuses or the relay so now ive got to take the dash out and check the wiring!!! Great. ive only driven 200miles in the car since i bought her, ah well its all part of the fun of owning a TVR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think

before whipping the dash out it might be wort checking if theres any loose wires behind the fuse board. I had something similar

Wot he says......

had this on Sportmotives car few weeks ago, there is a red feed to the dash from behind the fuse box, this was loose.
Well worth a check before pulling dash out.
Getting fuse box out isnt exactly nice, but not that bad..........

ok managed to trace it to a 10 piece inch of wire on the main ignition feed cant belive that there is a direct disconnect/short, inside the loom!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! back to it!!
