Replacing rear lights-how best to clean them?

I have some of the GSi type smoked rear lights that i'd like to fit to the griff,but i'm having problems getting them clean.They have come off a Cav GSi,and have a lot of dirt in between the lens and the back bulb cover,all around the edges.I've soaked them for ages in hot water and brushed a lot of the dirt out,but theres still plenty in there.Has anybody done this and got any tips please? I guess its not possible to seperate the two halves without breaking?

Just a thought try wonder wheels(car plan i think)tip it in and brush it around,got to be worth a try it shifts stubborn crap off of wheels.

Couple off small holes in the back grey part so the water/washing up liquid gets into the sealed areas takes a long time with a lot of shaking it about

The outer comes up like new with silver polish

Lots of soaking/drying in airing cupboard but the will come up really well

I sealed the extra holes after....

Wonder wheels is acid based (i think) might not go to well on plastic/seals between outer and inner part

I was wondering about that,but fortunately i have a scrapper to try first,thanks for the warning though,it is appreciated

Ive used it on sensitive stuff before its excellent as long as you dont leave it for ages.
