Found the thread - in fact there where a few of them. No denying the safety advantages but doesn't do much for aesthetic beauty of the car. I think I need to see one in the flesh. I'm over 6ft and have the seat right back. Want to make sure my head isn't right up against it.

I'm with you all the way on this one Paul. I'm so close to parting with the Griff in favour of a car with roll protection. I'm yet to see a Griff with a roll bar that looks like it adds to the car, not takes away.

I had T.V.R. Services fit a rollcentre bar to my Chim a while back. I assume there is little difference btwn it and the one you'd have for a Grif. From what others have said, the amount of rewards visibility you lose seems to depend on your height. I've lost a substantial amount and it is particularly noticable with the roof down. Having said that, you quickly get used to looking over and under the bar in the rearview mirror and using the wing mirrors. It's a minor inconvenience. I'm 6'4 and drive with the seat right back, with the backrest slightly reclined. The rollbar means I can't recline the back of the drivers seat as much as I used to. The driving position is fine, but there is absolutely no further room for adjustment.
I'd recommend finding someone who has had a bar fitted and try sitting in their car.

Not after the roll bar I'm afraid - have one on order - but just wondered whether the "detachable" leather covering looked any good? I shall be covering my roll bar but it is a time consuming/expensive job. A detachable one would be easy but might look a bit hic?
Paul, I recently had the Rollcentre version fitted by TowerView. Yes it does impede rear view slightly.
This can be overcome by re-positioning mirror, but I haven't had to/bothered to do this yet.
Because of the layout, (different from the factory version) it does allow you to recline the seat at full stretch without your head connecting with the bar.
I am 6'3" and only bump my head occasionally when at full blast!(Must remember to wrap some foam around bar)

BTW didn't mean to hi-jack the thread Paul. I've got a Roll Centre bar on order as it seemed the only bar that would not pose a risk to my head in a rear end shunt on the road - far more likely IMO than flipping the car over. I reckon you're making the right choice.

The guys assure me fitting it is easy but not damaging the trim/carpets is the difficult bit. Cutting through the bodywork is the bit I'm not looking forward to - definitely a case of measuring twice and cutting once!

I've got a simple solution to not worrying about the carpet... leave the window slightly open for two weeks outside over christmas and it'll be shagged...

( as well as a bliking respray since the wife reversed the discovery into it)
Hopefully my bar should appear next week.
on the cutting front... the nice thing about grp is that its easy to repair if you get the whole slightly out.....
