Hi all. This is my first time(virgin)on this forum although i have read with much interest the various topics related to Griffith ownership and have found lots of useful tips in doing so.However, one of the most annoying things is opening the bonnet and having to look at and use the bonnet stay.Is that really the best TVR could come up with?It was recently asked on this forum if we could come up with something better.Well it got me thinking and i think i have come up with what i believe to be a neat and user friendly effort (modesty aside). If this has already been done this way then fair enough but i would be interested to know what you think, good or bad.The material used is stainless steel tubing. All i need is for someone to tell me how to post pictures as not much good with computers.
Cheers....Simon

I use website www.TINYPIC.COM

Fill in the ‘Upload’ box with your file – use the ‘Browse’ button to search your hard-drive, it works a treat. Click ‘Upload Image’ when you are ready.

When you’ve finished uploading, highlight and copy the middle of the three link fields which is marked [IMG}. Copy everything in that box.

Then go to PistonHeads, start your thread and type away. When you are ready to put the picture in, paste the link data you just copied. Robs yer dads brother !

One other thing I also do is click on the ‘email me this link’ thingy and get it to email the details to me. I then file all TinyPic emails away just in case I need to look anything up.

Thankyou barreti for info,i only hope i've done it justice and got this right.Pictures hopefully show stay in stowed position and supporting bonnet. One other shows detail of how stay locates in bar across bonnet. The other is not very clear (camera skills also below par) but is supposed to show a series of rubber 'o'rings that i have located in grooves on bonnet stay so as pinkies don't get burnt when touching stay.Hope this is clear and pics have loaded ok.If not will try again after more Stellas.

Simon.

Simon.

Only 2 pictures were showing Simon.
I've quoted your original post and made the changes to show all the pictures. Basically you'd got your [img] [/img] bits merged in with the text.
If you click on the QUOTE button on the top of my post you will be able to see the coding behind it and how it needs to be laid out.
You don't need to put text in there like I have, it's there so you can see how to put comments against photographs.

Right, lets get back to this bonnet strut of yours... I'm off to study your pictures.

I must say it looks very good, it has a nice quality look. I'm afraid however that making a bonnet stay like yours is a bit to much for my skills ( and probably patience).

Maybe you could post some sort of guide in making a strut like this. You could include partnumbers and locations on where to get the items.

Watch this space Fred. I'm already in the process of writing up how to modify the original item into something much more user friendly. I'll post a pic of mine up here but I'll have to go take one first!

Here's my finished item.

The bottom end of the stay is exactly as original.

And a disclaimer so I don't fall out with anyone.

I know Steve Heath has just launched his own version of a bonnet stay. This is in no way trying to undermine the excellent work Steve has done. All credit to him and I hope he sell them in truck loads.

I've worked on this for a while now, looking to modify the existing stay so it
a) looks better
b) is more versatile
c) is a simple kit which people could buy to allow them to modify their own original stay
d) avoids the damage the original stay does to the heat shield/bonnet

Because each item takes about an hour to make, the small potential profit means it simply isn't worth it to go ahead and produce the kit. So I am now writing up what is necessary to make this and will post it up so anyone with a few tools who wants to have a go can have the benefit of my experiences.

This certainly looks a great improvement over the original. I can't but wonder who "designed" the original stay, it must have been someone studying at the same design school that did the "dog bites part from car" design approach with the Chim.
