Power steering problem

It appears i have a leak on my power steering,as the resevoir is dropping without the car moving!My cheif suspect is one of the rubber pipes at some point touching the engine,as all other visible points look fine.Has anyone replaced these with braded pipes or similar?I seem to remember something about JCB hoses???.Cheers,Mike

I take it youve driven a power assisted car,when the power assisted bit isnt working?I'd love to convert to manual,just like i wanted to when Mrs M didn't want me to,so that she could drive it.
Trouble is that i'd rather spend the money on a J.E. tripple plenum in the near future

Hi Mike, Try Think Automotive (0208 568 1172) if you send them the pipes they will make them for you out of stainless braid!!!

Mongoose, I will swap you my non PAS rack for your PAS rack!!
My PAS rack is f----d and I have had to go back to non PAS. OK I am a wuss! I want my PAS back!!!

I replaced mine with a couple of quids worth of hydraulic hose from my local JCB repair shop.
I didn't use braided in the end, simply because the bend radius was a bit too big for what I needed. (If you've seen the car you'll understand...)

The low pressure pipes are two different sizes. The run from the reservoir to the rack is 1/2inch bore the one to the pump is 5/8. I got about 2m of 1/2 and 1m of 5/8 SAE100R6 from my local Pirtek, for £10

A while back I went in there and asked for a copy of the high pressure hose and they made one up there and then with an adaptor to replace the banjo cos they're easier to seal and stay sealed aparrently, with a length of fireproof heatshield to protect it from the exhaust, I forget quite how much it was cos I got a few other bits and pieces thrown in to but it didn't break the bank.

False alarm folks!I found that the one jubilee clip not immediately visible was the culprit.The leak just required the tightening of the clip at the bottom of the resevoir,so all is now well.Thanks for the replies
