Our friends from Norway - Per & Gri - whom I met at the Growl - have a very nice Griff and Per has put the battery in the boot (lower RH side I believe) which makes a lot of sense to me. Anyone done it over here?

Ah another item I forgot to put on my "Mods to do" list

Did you manage to get any pics of it? I don't think it's too easy, it has to be positioned perfectly to allow clearance for the roof panel (this is what I found on a dummy run anyway).

More info would be great

So where do you put the tool kit, passenger footwell I kinda like the idea of it in the boot to give your passengers more foot room and more importantly to stop them pushing all them wires that are above the Battery {my ECU is a very tight above the battery).
It would also give more rom to get to the bloody Fuses and Play with the Heater matrix Valves and them Darstly Micro switches.

I imagine its just getting the right positioning and having some that can hold the battery secure as The body is obviously curved around there so it may need padding or something adding to get a flat surface.

Hello Steve, nice to meet you and Helene at the growl mate.Per's battery in the boot mod was a lovely instal, and i fancy doing something similar myself.I was also wondering about the recess behind the drivers seat?Does anyone know whats on the other side of the fibreglass here? And how easy it would be to get to the other side of this recess?Cheers,Mike

Can you still get the roof in with the battery there? The V8S has the battery in the boot, but the two piece roof is far easier to stow.

Yes,the battery was mounted on the o/side wheelarch, very neat. The roof doesnt reach there when put in the boot correctly, helped by the fact that the roof is put in curving towards the rear of the car,if you see what i mean. It's where i originally thought of placing mine, but i'd just like to get it further away from the fuel tank if possible. Then someone suggested the recess behind the seat to me,which i'd like to investigate further.

I'm refering to the little recess, which sometimes has a flap of carpet over it in chim's to make a small cubby box.I'm surprised the wheelarch is behind here, from memory it seems like slightly the wrong position,or am i getting

If you are simply looking for a bit more leg room, fitting a different battery and replacing the standard battery box with a better fixing arrangement is another option. I have a Red Top 20 which is tiny and has been fine for a couple of years now. (I do plug in a trickle charger when garaged), it may be challenged without that. Even with the ECU fixed behind the battery (against the bulkhead) there is still a good 2 inches extra leg room.

I did this on my Europa Twin Cam several years ago. It helped weight distribution of course, but the downside was voltage loss to the starter motor which was particularly noticeable in the winter. If you go that route I suggest some good quality uprated cables.

Mike, surely that will be the chassis, drive shafts, diff' and rear suspension??? p.s. Griff's don't have the little cubby behind the seats. Rich...

Given that the Griff's battery is already as low as it possibly can go and is located between the wheelbase - repositioning it to the boot will be detrimental to the handling because i) it will be higher up raising the centre of gravity slightly and ii) it will be behind the rear wheels increasing the mass at the tail and making a tail slide more difficult to control (increased moments of inertia and all that ) .

Bristol cars have for years used the lower part of the wing to store gubbins; they lift up like a gull wing.

Cheers Steve/Per, Here We go

Looks a greta Job, although I may have wanted to put it lower/or something below it, as it doesnt look to have much support except for the bolts for the tray through the Fibre Glass.

Does this Mod come with a saw so you can get the roof in the boot!

I'm not sure you can put it lower. The curvature of the boot would move the battery inboard if you tried, and then the roof panel wouldn't fit.

When I was looking at this my mock up was even higher! But now I know it's possible I have no excuses

The roof fits in just as easily as beforehehe, this location doesnt affect it.

It just dosen't look right, and I'd be a bit worried about voltage drop along that length of cable.

Looks a neat installation though, but seems like a lot of trouble for little if any gain.

IMO
The cable size that Per has used is more than large enough, infact you could fit smaller and be perfectly safe.
I guess how usefull it is depends on how you use your car really.Per and Gry apparently tour a fair bit,so i bet Gry finds it much more comfortable.I'm 5'11'' and sat in Gry's seat and could stretch my legs out straight, and the seat wasn't quite back as far as it would go!My wife is arthritic, and i'd love to move the battery for her,so her knees arent permanently bent whilst she's a passenger.I cant stick the uncomfortable position in this seat for long, and we like to use ours for weekends away a fair bit.
I'd still like to put the battery behind the drivers seat thoughscratchchin.
