..not the mohair, but the shiny underside. It's got a few rub marks & lights surface scratches, which I'd love to get rid of. Noting deep, just imperfectsions.
Am wondering about using the finest grade of emery; but would this leave it obviously different compared to the un touched areas; perhaps if followed by a dusting of paint lacquer to mask it?
All thoughts much appreciated, as ever!

LOL... never tried toothpaste either but who knows ?? Might be worth a try :-)
Most toothpaste contains a mild abrasive that is designed to polish your teeth, considering how hard tooth enamel is it might just work :-)
If you go the emery way just remember to go lightly. If the scratch doesn't come out on the first go try again. If rub away too much there's no going back..

Toothpaste....
don't use emery paper or you'll never get the scratches back out, if there deep scratches use some Wet 1600 or 1200 grade paper but if its just a few shallow scratches buy some "cutting compound" you can get it form a local car paint supliers or halfords (not as good) then apply it like t-cut. then you will need to t-cut the area's you have done then finaly polish.
Should come up nice.

Not as nutty as it may sound (well perhaps it is). I've used it on perspex and cd's before to get rid of scuffs and it works perfectly. As somebody has said it's just a mild abrasive a bit like alot of metal cleaners like Brasso. You also get a nice minty aroma

I'm thinking that I may well end up with some dull, or obviously rubbed areas. Hence thinking that when I've (hopefully) mananged to get the scartches away I'll give the whole thing a quick dusting of lacquer.
We'll see.... probably end up buggering it all up & then be on ebay for another 1!
