fitting a starter motor
Discussion
Hi,
has anybody fitted a starter motor lately. I've had a good read through this forum and the bible and it seams not to bad a job to do yourself, but is that the case.? Plus has anybody found a good soure for a new/recon motor. I've had a good ring around TVR dealers today and all are priced ish the same, but is there a none TVR dealer that I could go to for a new motor?
And finally what is the spec of the motor and which brand is best if there is a none TVR dealer out there.

I haven`t had any ptoblems, or need to replace mine yet, but did have to remove it when replacing the clutch, its not a difficult job, just a bit fiddly getting the top allen bolt undone.
I`m sure someone will be along in a while with some info on types of starter motor, Ballistic Banana replaced his, should find a thread on here if you search for it.
clive.

Straight forward job but, if it’s never been off before the bolts will be tight and you will need a hex drive socket (that is assuming it’s like mine which was fitted with Allen headed bolts).
I did forget about the battery (had the radio on as usual) and was soon reminded, fortunately no damage only a bump on the head.
Cheers,
Simon

I have been using the pretolite one for afew years now with no probs. A lot smaller and cranks over alot quicker which is kinda wierd at first but now used to it. Easier to put and get to the bolts than the original one. See my Griffith profile Blog for more info one where i got it from and price.
Whilst I would recommend it I know of 2 people who have had probs with theres.
