Roof cleaning tips...

The other day, a bird crapped on my Griff roof (no not my girlfriend!), but all I could get hold of to clean it off were some paper towels and some water. The towels got rid of the goo, but sort of shredded themselves into the material of the roof, so I now have a horrible looking whitish patch on the roof which no amount of washing or cleaning seems to get rid of. Has anyone got any tips for getting rid of it, or should I just cover the whole roof in that Renovo stuff, which the previous owner kindly left me in the boot? Hope someone can aid my dilemna.

I've got a similar problem with the roof on my Griff, which incidentally I picked up at the weekend!!!
After the drive back from Bedfordshire to Sussex the car was in good need of a clean and to cut a long story short, after doing it the roof got wet and the only thing I had to dry it off with was some kitchen roll which has now left bits of tissue fibre all over the roof. Now its not too bad but I was just after some advice as to what to clean it off with and in general how to maintain the roof, i.e. what waterproofing stuff to put on it and how often etc etc. Friend of mine suggested a fine brush to get little bits of crap out of the cloth, is this a good idea?
Oh and the obvious bit, the car is flippin fantastic!!! Would use another word beginning with F but might get in trouble!!

In general I rearly do much to the roof other than give it an occasional brush off with a clothes brush and it's once a year dose of Fabsil. However if I got bird crap on it I guess I would wash it off with a weak solution of washing up liquid and then rinse well let it dry and re-treat with Fabsil. Rich...
I have a 92 griff - The roof was faded when I first bought it so I got hold of the Renovo hood reviver - Worked a treat. It would also work well for slight stains. I managed to get gold spray paint on the hood through placing it on the same newspaper I used to clean up the badges (Doh!). I cleaned up the hood, then used the renovo again and it now looks goods as new. Best tip I can give is to paint the whole hood, not just the affected area, as you will be left with water marks around the area you painted.
