Bloody car won`t switch off , have replaced the ignition feeds relay with a new one , made no difference , seems to work fine without the relay (but have not driven it) . To switch off the ignition i have to remove the ignition relay , its stays off if i put it back bit if i turn the key it won`t switch off again .

A bit of a thicky when it comes to anything mildly complicated with electrics .

If the ignition feeds relay is the thing that normally switches the ignition off , the relay is obviously 'told' to do this by either voltage being received or switched off to activate it . (I hope that`s correct) so what instructs it ?? Is it just the key switch switching off voltage , the ecu or ?????? , perhaps this is all bull and some real contributions would be gratefully received


After 2 months of hell with this car (hated it with a vengance- i think it knows) I thought i had finally bonded with it after sorting out some major probs but its not beaten yet . Dreading fitting the stereo in case the gearbox falls out .

Sure the ignition switch and key tumbler assembly aren't on the blink? (Unless you have a reason for suspect a duff relay)

Any ideas how to test , it seems ok and switches on and off without the relay in place .

got the bible but the wiring diagram is a foriegn language to me .

fitted new ignition switch just in case , no difference , but did notice some non standard connectors on back of fuse board (a very amauteurish job) . the main ignition live from the fuse board had been cut and joined to fuel pump live from fuse board and then these two connected to ignition fuel pump.
(all four wires connected together) this was obviously done for a reason at some time , perhaps for the old fuseboard which was replaced by the previous owner? . Have reconnected wires as should be on wiring diagram and everything seems o.k now but have not testdriven yet . Still strange that this arrangement has been working fine up until now .
