Newbie Questions?

Hello everyone,

I have just driven from London to Aberdeen (home town) in my recently purchased Griff 500 ('93 pre-cat).

Bar it cutting out in the middle of the M25 and the boot lid deciding to pop open on the M74 just outside Glasgow, it's a blinding tool, which has me grinning like a mad man, but I have one or two questions to ask, which I have posted on the TVR site, but am canvassing opinion before sticking it to my trusted mechanic.

When going from 2nd to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th I usually have to double de-clutch to select (and especially going from 3th to 4th) and it needs an almight shove to get it to go to third and even more so from 3rd to 4th. It's fine coming back down the box from 5th. Is this usual, or could this be a selector issue?

I would say more likely to be a clutch issue, will it go into 1st ok ?, my old griff did this on the odd occasion

Hi Martin,

I have just had to do the same as you, in that I bought my Griff in London, and drove it home to Brechin. Did you go the boring way or the fun way?

Have you joined the nessies yet?

Hey ACT & Griff Boy,

ACT: Goes into 1st, 2nd, 5th and reverse. fine, and occasionsly 3rd fine too when upto heat. The problem only rears its head when the car is upto heat and only when going up though the box, not down.

Griff Boy: I trust you consumed plenty of water on the way home. We were like a couple of arbroath smokies when we made it back to the 'deen. I took the M6 toll road, just so I could have a wee pop at the potential. I was not disapointed!!

Couple of 'closed season' jobs to do, and I'll deff be signing up for an Advanced driving course to get the'best' out of it. Got a ffeling its going to be around for a good while.
