Now Lotus have made a Bio-ethanol Exige would it be a good idea making a Griff bio-ethanol conversion in the near future when the fuel is availabe at more pumps?

The V8 engine seems suitable for it as it is from aluminium, which of course doesn't rust which is essential for bio-ethanol. Although a Bio-ethanol is thirstier it will be cheaper in the end I suspect if the government reduces tax on the stuff!

What are your thoughts on this?

Already have the system 95% installed in my Griff - just needs a viable source of ethanol in the tank, and a bit of effort to map it...

Well that's brilliant hope you get some fuel for it! You could grow it yourself if you can't find it! ;-)

My garden isn't big enough - otherwise I would be growing it

I wonder if you could also get the stuff out of weed? We have plenty of that here in Holland

By the way DNB how did you make it happen?

I installed a VEMS aftermarket ECU, 8 COP type coils, massive injectors etc... and then mapped it. Currently I have to manually switch the maps, but I hope to measure the density of the fuel and use this to automatically chose the map.

So what do you need to run bio-ethanol then?Is is just a case of mapping for a different AFR requirement?

There's not much to do with the lambda if you have a wideband - a lambda of 1 is always stoich - even though petrol is 14.7:1 and ehthanol is 7.n:1... The injectors just have to flow twice as much fuel for a given load cell. (Hence my extreme choice for injectors)

The ignition advance map needs to be changed too, given the increased octane rating so you can claw back some fuel economy...
