speedo problem (different to Donatien)

My speedo has gone t*ts up. It worked at the start of the run but part way thru it pinged round to 140 ish then bounced about a bit then hit zero it then proceeded to flick about a bit to 30 or 40 mph. Next day when cold it worked for 10 mins then the same.

I don’t know whether this is relevant but both times when it went wonky it was as the car hit normal temp (75 ish-80 degs) I have seen donatien’s post but this seems different. The car seems to run OK although it does seem to take turn ovrer more before starting. Usual 2 turns, now 4 ish.

Ours did this some time ago. Worked Ok, then bounced up to 80 then back to zero, then died completely. ODO still worked, but then that packed in too. Sensor changed and worked again (May be worth checking teh electrical connections on the sensor first as they are pretty exposed to the elements - put some bicycle inner tube over new connections and cable tied out of the way). ODO keeps stopping at xx,999 and then restarts, eventually - just started again randomly after 6 months.

U OK? I do have a bible but not to hand so can u tell me-

• Where the sensor is?
• If it is fooked where I can get one?
• Is it a diy?

I take it this was on your white one? Does that have the same sender as mine T5 box??

Sensor is on the diff, to replace it might need to get the end pipes off which is just a couple of clamps. Its an easy DIY job if you can get under your car.

Try a dealer or one of the internet TVR parts places. They were around £75 inc VAT when I got mine a few years back. Make sure you get the right one, they come in 4 or 8 teeth. If you get the wrong one your speedo will be either halfed or doubled the actual speed.
