non standard rotor arm

Not sure if anyone else has posted this (can't get the search to work), but my pride and joy refused to start. Much messing around with RAC got it fired up, but was clearly sick - RAC reckoned ECU knackered. Only symptom before this was a little bit rough cruising at low speed - bit lumpy - on its last run, otherwise runs fine. Anyway, as I was trying to start it to go to its service, got it towed there. Matt at Silverstone Performance finally (after big bill) got to the rotor arm. I had renewed the electrics (arm, cap, leads, plugs etc) at the begining of the year - and got the arm from Halfords. Matt (at Silverstone) says anything other than the standard Lucas part will give out. He had another Griff in with the same.
Just thought I would pass on, hopefully to save big garage bills for anyone else.

I had a similar experience...I was at a hill climb, just about to go to the start line and griff stalls, couldn't get it started again, turned out to be the rotor arm that had just failed??!!
I think the OEMs are hard to get, so I now just keep a spare in the car and will change it every year as part of the service....
My advice would be just to keep a spare in the car!!

these are the lucas part numbers, the ones on the alternative parts list are incorrect, so will e-mail to simon.

I didnt think you could still get them from lucas? i dont recognise that part number either? if you dont mind me asking how much was the rotor arm? thanks
the cap was about £16. and the rotor arm £12.51
the chap at Lucas had several tvr models listed in the catalogue, and said that nearly all the v8`s use the same cap and arm.
I probably got a bit of discount, so prices to some may be a bit higher.

I bought a Lucas rotor arm and cap off ebay recently - at least they came in Lucas boxes. My old rotor arm had 'Lucas' moulded into the top of it, the new one does not although is otherwise identical although the metal part is fixed to the plastic part differently (can't remember the detail - just remember noticing). At first I wondered if the replacement was a fake - then I concluded it's probably just not made in the same place as the original, but still 'officially' branded Lucas. Maybe the original Lucas parts are scarce, but the 'Lucas' branded replacements are widely available.

If it doesnt say lucas on them then they are not!
