Slight clunk when pulling away.

I've not noticed this before but when I let the clutch out with not many revs, there's a quiet clunk towards the rear of the car. It feels as if it's coming from the end of the prop area. It doesn't do it if the revs are a little higher.

My fuel tank does that (the hissing) after a long run, when I fill up - what do you have to do to check the venting?
I thought I had major diff/suspension problems until I realised the clunking noise was the tank.

Not sure if that applies. It was doing it form cold. Although the tank was very empty. I'll have a look at that nonetheless.
I had a similar issue and hoped it would be the diff bushes - it wasn't. The diff itself was the problem - it never whined but there was enough wear in the bearings to increase the backlash enough for the unit to clunk as it took up drive. It will probably run on and on like that before a total failure but I'm having Bernie rebuild a replacement next week hopefully.

It'll only do it on minimal revs on take-off, like 1200, anything above there is no clunk. I can't say I've ever noticed it before.

I think you need to get underneath Steve and have a look at the drive line that is exposed. I've encountered something similar which turned out to be the rear propshaft UJ flange mounting bolts having worked loose. Just make sure all is tight where it should be and illiminate that which is accessible first.

I had similar noises & slightly clunky gear changes, thought likewise UJ or something worn at the back. Took it to get looked at ..... "Ahem, we think it's your driving, Sir!" Nothing worn or broken, just that when I get out of my Eurobox estate car & into the Tiv, the weight of the controls/clutch etc takes a little getting used to.... "it's not your daily driver, is it, Sir?"
Hmmmmm, Interested in this thread -my '94 500 Pre-serp is EXACTLY the same, but it had a new diff about 1,000 miles ago. Is yours similar age/milage? Only hear it pulling away gently, usually with some left lock on, but it's more noticeable after a long run, never happens when cold. Just had MOT, no excessive play in driveshafts either. Curious.

Mine is a 98 with 26,000 miles.

I get it only at slow speeds, like on takeoff. It's not always been like it, it only started a few weeks ago. Doesn't seem to affect the car when cruising.
