Number of Griff 500s - Made, MOTD, Taxed etc

Got this from the DVLA today. Doesn't tell us how many are on the road legally at this time, but it sure tells us how few there were registered in this country.

Interesting how there seems to be one per annum after official end of production ....

..... and who has the unlicensed ones? Watch this space ....

Shadow, is this definately just 500's?

Just that there are some for 91,92 and 93, I didnt realise there were 500's around then, or is this for all griffs?

I think the first "500" Griff was built in 1993.

V useful research tool if you could do it on line.

looks lke a 100-200 are out ofthe country, ie unilicensed/undclared?

there must be a mistake i the 91 figure, ie it isreally a 4.0/4.3

Any chance of getting the 4.0/4.3/ 4.5(4?) figures?
Most 4.0/4.3s should be in 92, ie uk production stopped dec 92, cats came in in jan 93.

Its strange to think there are only ~1500 griff 500's ever built...

that makes it rarer than most ferraris. ie how many f40's out there.

If i'm reading it right, to have only 36 scrapped in 14 years is pretty good going , considering the performance..

The ones after production ceased are going to be the remainder of the last 100 built (actually they may have actually been building them in to 2006 - ie it took a few years to sell the last 100 announced) and or they were (last 100) sitting in dealers showrooms waiting to be sold. (ie unregistered)

I sent the email to DVLA asking "How many TVR Griffith 500 models are registered at this time either on the road or sorn'd?" and I was told to direct my question to the address at the foot of my first post,which I did and the reply is posted in full. They replied with a link to an excel spread sheet, which had my name on it and the answer as you see it.

I wanted to know how many are taxed as road legal or sorn'd NOW, not "registered" as such each year since production; so I guess I phrased my question wrongly. I have sent another.

I know from Griff pages and replies from the TVRCC that less than 1500 x 500s were made. They should appreciate in value in the next few years.

Those stats below ARE current. They show the current status of cars which made in respective years.

So, there really arent that many Griff 500s about.

It's a good effort from shadowfax, but DVLA statistics are (IME) unreliable. Out of 12 cars I've owned, about 2 had the V5 totally correctly filled out. The reliability of the statistics they supplied will depend on whether they looked up ONLY 5 litre 'TVR Griffith', 'TVR Griffith 500', 'TVR Griffin', all the above etc etc.

It's an interesting breakdown. What's "Und"?

Just following on from Anthonyj's comment, I also have an early 1992 4.0 precat so I wonder how many others still remain.

Could all 16 still be around?

Mines stated on the reg doc as being a '400 SE' so I guess won't be included in any Griff figures. However the engine capacity shows '4280cc', when it's supposed to be a 4.0L!! Go figure, I wouldn't count on those stats as being too accurate.

Point is, it confirms the rarity of the model and only intensifies the pain of having to lose yet another TVR due to fiancial impecunity.
