There are things to take into account when considering acceptable oil pressure. The gauges and senders can be woefully inaccurate, also the viscocity, age and quality of your oil will also effect the pressure. But a guidline of 12psi to 25psi on idle when hot and 25psi and above driving when hot should be ok, maybe a little lower if it is the older pre serpentine motor. But more importantly a sudden change from your usual pressures should be taken seriously, especially if the oil warning light comes on as well.

If you're running Mobil 1, any oil pressure shoud be regarded as a miracle ;-) On tick-over when hot, zero indicated psi is not unusual...
I use Castrol RS, albeit in a 500, and get substantially better oil pressure as a result, but even so there are big differences between a hot and cold engine, and high and low revs.

That's very interesting, so different to what I am used to in my Taimar which has 20k on a rebuilt engine where you can idle at 40psi warm (taking into accouunt gauges, etc). Anyway I'm going ahead and buying the 400 I,ve seen, hopefully I will have her within a few days. Thanks for your help and speak again.

I agree with Simpo's experience with MOBIL 1 and switched to SHELL fully synthetic' as a result, the oil presure remains higher under all conditions...
