Foxguard alarms... help please

When I bought the car, Fernhurst told me that the alarm siren didn't work, which is indeed true. In all honesty I'm not sure it works at all, but seeing as those old Foxguard sirens were actually the whole alarm unit it's probably the case.
Anyhow, as funds are short at the moment (I have spoken to Carl about a Meta install) I have been digging about and managed to get a brand new Foxguard system (read siren) off eBay for £2. What I need to know is the model of the unit TVR fitted. The new one I have is an F-4, it looks identical to my broken original but unfortunately that doesn't have any identifying stickers.
What I hope to do is cut the wires on the old unit, and solder in the new one - fingers crossed I'll have a working alarm for peanuts! Can anyone see any possible flaws in the plan? I assume that the immobiliser is completely separate; I don't want to cut out the old on and find I can't start the car!
