Best £38 ever spent?.....

Just back from what should have been a delicious week touring Alsace/Lorraine in NE France in the Griff. It was, instead, a delicious week touring Alsace Lorraine in NE France in a ...Peugeot 206
Travelled some 500km on Saturday 16th across N France - great run - had a great stretch running with a Morgan Aero 8 (jeez...how fast??!!). Got to within 15km of the destination and the Griff started sounding like a bag of nails. Made it to the Chateau and rang a few intelligent people for help/advice plus there was a German biker staying there who had a few ideas. Anyway tightened everything up and a few other little things. Went for a short run to try it no luck, still shite! On the way back - boom!!! - white smoke out of the back that you could have hidden a battalion of Panzer tanks in! ...and it stalled.
Soooo...to cut a long un short...back of a waggon for my lovely Griff (Red one not so fast now eh?) and a continuation of the journey in a Pug...mmmm...Diesel power!!!
The Griff beat me back though and arrived on Friday last. Immediate diagnosis was,as suspected,a head gasket although fingers crossed theres not more damage...ie cracks
Any way, the £38? The cost of full AA 5 star cover. Sweet as a nut I tell you. Car was collected in 40 minutes after arranged, taxi for 1.5 hours on a Sunday to collect the Pug. Allowed to bring the Pug across to Dover to change over to a UK hore car. UK hire car was an estate which was good as we sepnt the £250 saved on fuel on wine!!!!
Suggestions for any work/improvements whilst the engine is being done? I can now investigate/sort my oil use problem which is good...

Sorry to hear you were Griff-less for most of the trip. I was thinking last week, with much jealousy how much I'd like to be doing your trip. Hopefully the change of vehicle and any lingering thoughs you had for the Griff didn't stop you having a good time.
And hey at least the fuel pump held up!

...and yes the trip would have been superb with the Griff but hey it was a week off in glorious weather in a beautiful part of the world so what the hell...also a GREAT excuse to already be planning next years trip across!
