Roof proofing, reconditioning to black + waterproofing

What is best substance to use and how best to appy

Targa and hood in perfect condition, except greying and totally porous on rear fabric section!

Best suggestions please, and how soon after can it be exposed to dust and rain

In a word Fabsil - available from camping type shops. Cheap and it works!

Somewhat cheaper than Renovo, however does it evenly darken fabric on targa panel and rear hood ok

What do you prepare roof with?

Does it need existing (factory) remaining proofing removing

How many coats?

Just done my Chim with Renovo restorer then proofed with ultra proofer.
IMHO it looks great. Very easy to use, just paint it on to a clean dry surface. Start in the middle and work your way to the edges. I think the key is to do it in the garage so it doesnt dry too quickly. I put 2 coats of proofer on the targa panel and 3 on the fabric/stitching. Allowing time to dry, took me a weekend, and now my Chim is totally waterproof!

I have used Fabsil on my previous Griffith 400, S3c and current Griffith 500 with no problems. No preparation involved other than ensuring the hood is clean before application, it does darken the mohair slightly but as this was even overall it was not a problem for me, particularly as the previous Griff's hood was black. My current Griff 500 has a blue hood and as this was already quite dark no problem, but you do need to repeat the process regularly depending on how much time the car spends outside. Fabsil is a waterproofer only so unlike Renovo will not restore the appearance of a tired hood, but its a fraction of the cost and does what it says on the can.

Just bought the Autoglym 2 spray pack and intend to try this in a few days unless warned against it
