Heater Air Intake.Help Please

Just waiting for my bible to arrive, but trying to get a few jobs done. Where does the heater draw its fresh air from on my 94 500 ? is there a filter thing somewhere ? . Mine smells like rotten veg at the min .... so bad I cant put the heater on or Wifey wants to get out and walk. Any advice would be great. Thanks

Rotten veg? - It smells like someone has dropped their guts and followed through
If the car was standing for a while, could be a "dead thing" lodged somewhere which is starting to honk? Working on trains as I do, the smell is quite similar to a badly decaying bird. We get them all the time in the coupler hatches of trains....
Anyway, whats this forum all about then? - it it where all the Wedgers are starting to hang out?
I don't know whether it's the same as a '96 Griff 500, but that draws it's fresh air through a cavity in the near side wing, the entry is somewhere near the headlight I think - as far as I know there's no filter though.
There is a fresh-air/recirculator flap in the passenger footwell near the battery - have you checked to see whether this is working? Some pictures here www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=9&t=312402

Thanks Andrew Mine had the same problem, flap not working, so have fixed that but now I need to find the dead thing or whatever is the cause of the smell. somewhere IN the inner wing then ?? between heater and headlight ??

Did you find out yet where your rotten veg smell was coming from?
Not yet Andrew, sorting the new windscreen this week. I hope to have a good poke round in the heater system this weekand if time/wifey allows. Still cant understand it as the smell is from the N/S main heater and the o/s one as well unless I have 2 dead things ???

A browse of the forums tells me that you've sold the Griff 500 and bought your dream car, StainlessSteve's 450 SEAC
, well done, but please tell me whether you ever found the source of your 'rotten veg' smell? It might just give me a few clues on how to track down a strange smell, like stale water, in my car - I've never seen any water inside after rain though. I suppose it could be said you've gone from 'rotten veg' to a 'stainless wedge' now eh?

I did not buy SSs Seac but thats another story.
The smell .... I found that the washer jet was wizzing water into the cavity below the windscreen and after fixing that and cleaning the carpets the smell has gone (along way away as it happens) sorry I cant say just what caused it but the fact that the car had stood for a bit, dirty carpets and water in places it should not have been is all I can think of.
