Booster fan info required please
Discussion
Hi all,for those of you that have the optional 'booster' fan fitted in their cars(this is the one with a 3 speed control knob on drivers side under dash),i would really appreciate some info.Firstly i'd like to know which relay and fuse it's connected to,and secondly i'd like to know how easy it is to access the fan itself(located inside the drivers side front wing).
I'm trying to get one working again, and i'm struggling a bit!!
Cheers,Mike

Hi Mongoose,
I have one which works but sorry no idea what fuse or relay it runs through as there is nothing listed in my manual on the fuse panel diagram (although the manual mentions the blower). Just tryed the blower and can not hear a relay click on when used. There is a section on this blower in the bible(2nd edition)if you have not already seen that.

Great picture BB, so the motor has 2 pipes which is in/out and where is it pulling air from ? the n/s inner wing along with the heater ?? is that the pipe which runs along the top of the bulkhead inside the engine bay ??? (still trying to find the souce of my bad smell)
The pipe running along the bulkhead, feeds air from the passenger side to the drivers side IIRC.It looks like in BB's pic, that the upper pipe is intake air from the wing duct, and the lower pipe is going to the footwell vent?.I would like to know myself!I'd still like to know how you access this extra blower motor for repairs etc,is there an access flap in the drivers footwell? Edited to add:-the more i look at BB's picture, the more i think that those two pipes are probably the opposite way around to what i initially thought!

Ok Mr Goose just remember I have only had my griff for a short while but to get the motor out you need to remove the carpet and the pedals drill out the rivits and the motor comes out complete with the access flap, not a nice job by all accounts.

Mongoose, you took a bold step with your targa panel modification - I wonder if there is an opportunity here for you to take another bold step... looking at the photograph earlier in this thread it appears that it may be possible to reposition the fresh air intake by making a hole in the door "A" post. I suppose you would have to take the door off to do this, but when the door is in position you wouldn't see the intake. This would avoid the problem of the air being heated by the engine as it passes through the duct across the engine bay. In fact, why does it have to cross the engine bay anyway? Couldn't you pass a duct tube over the wheel arch and draw air in somewhere below the headlight?
Mike, I'll have to have a look at this targa roof panel you've done - my haven't you been busy.
This controller may have been the actual heater fan controller in the old days as this is the same controller as the pre cats which usually sits on the centre console - can someone post a pre cat layout please. Not sure if there is a booster fan there at all?

Hi mate. The wiring from this 3 speed switch does disappear into the o/side wing,so i was hoping it's for a booster fan(and hoping i could get it to work!).Took the day off today to sort it,and the weather forecast lied

I'm not sure if you might be getting confused about the ducting?I thought the hose along the bulkhead is from the main air supply on the passenger side,as i mentioned earlier?.The blower fan you can see in BB's pic,is a suplimentry fan, which not all cars had,i didn't think the ducting from this goes over the bulkhead,as i thought it just went to the drivers footwell and the nearest of the three dash vents to the driver? .In all honesty,i'm struggling to remember now,as i only had a booster in my Chim, and that was a while ago.

Sorry, my mistake - I can't tell a goose from a moose! It was 'moosehunter' who took the bold step of creating a two piece targa panel.

I'm almost certainly confused over the ducting also. As far as I can see on my '96 Griff their is no supplementary booster and no vents in the right hand side of the drivers footwell. There is a vent in the left hand side of the drivers footwell and also in the passenger footwell, these are both connected to the ducting that comes from the main blower fan which I think is located behind the passenger side wheelarch somewhere.
So, on those Griffs that do come with a supplementary blowere I'm still not sure where they draw their air from.
I think at this point I'll make a quick exit before I confuse things any further.........
For all who are confused Mike is talking about a 92 pre cat Griff with all 500 interior and switches, in fact the factory ocean haze car. It could have had anything fitted and standard diagrams/knowledge will be of limited use other than as a pointer. It has a pre cat fan controller fitted under the steering wheel column so is trying to trace its purpose.
Mike has a late 500 so will know 500 layouts.

I've got a '92 pre cat Mike and have the handbooks from 2 (long story)
Both show the fuseboard layouts the same although it doesn't match any of the 7 (7 for christs sake
) in the bible. If it might be any use I'll photograph the page and get it to you. PM me if you want it. Edited by barreti on Monday 30th October 13:47

Ian,
I've sent Mike the layout you sent me (hope you don't mind). If you can send him the juniper green BV layout then he can have as much fun as he wants - or if you send it to me and I'll forward it on (i'll get a copy that way too for future reference).

The Juniper Green layout is the same as the one you've got FFG, and of course I don't mind you sending it on mate, we're all bailing out our little canoes together eh
Cheers guys, thanks for the help.I'm pretty sure the loom and fuseboard are '98ish onwards, but i'd like the pre-cat info,as theres one or two things that arent clear!Others have also added to the existing wiring since TVR last fitted the updated loom.
