Anyone use Band-its

Has anyone used Band-its, a SS band fastener, in place of cable ties under the bonnet ??
It gets so hot under there that cable ties go hard and brittle and I am frightened that one will give up and something important will touch something very hot. I have this thought that because Band-its are metal they will retain heat and damage whatever they are holding plastic rubber cables etc
Any thoughts ??

Cable ties go brittle with heat but they aren't easy to melt, if they're getting that hot you are probably damaging whatever they are securing anyway. I don't know what those metal ties are you mentioned, but if they're anything like the straps that are used to secure exhaust wrap etc I think they would damage hoses/cables etc because they're hard and have sharp edges. Plastic ties are much kinder from that point of view.

They would damage a hose as much as a jubilee clip , if they are put on concentrically to the hose, however if you use it say just to retain something loosely then as Pete says it will cut in. Stick with cable ties far better imho

I have used them to secure the wrapping of my exhaust, but like Peter mentioned, they (can) have very sharp edges. You can buy cable ties with a metal core, these wil last ages. Over here the Police used them to tie suspects until a lawyer said they were harming the suspects wrists, now they are forbidden here.
