The wipers on my 500 works fine except for the intermitten setting. They work and come on etc but seem to set themselves so that they stop in varying places on the windscreen and not the start (lefthand side). This can be quite interesting when turning off the wipers as it can take quite a few attempts to get them to stop in the right place.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Im having the same problem with mine, most of the time they go over once, then just stop at the drivers side, but sometimes they stop in the middle of the screen. They work fine on the other settings too. Not much help, but at least you are not alone !!

Could be the Intermittent wiper delay relay. On my 400 griff its a large blue relay on the main fuse panel. It sometimes vibrates loose , pushing it firmly cured the same problem on mine.

Thank god I am not alone. I will check the relay and see if that cures it. Thanks chaps.

Sounds like the wiper park switch to me, mine was doing the same thing and sometimes continued wiping even with the switch off. replaced it with one of these www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=32887 which sorted the problem.

More info on the wiper park switch. They do seem to be a bit of a weak point.

I have comedy wipers at the mo ... exactly as described above, on my 430. To save me getting the covers off in this weather, can anyone tell me what relay to get (and a supplier maybe)? It's positioned as barreti describes but looked a bit unusual when I pulled it at the weekend - an extra pin or two to my (untrained) eye.

Had this on my 500.It was the wiper park switch which nestles on the nearside just under bonnet near the windscreen.Mine was full of water so was shorting out I guess.Just pulled it apart and sprayed some Wd40 in it and its been fine since.Cheaper than a new one !

Prob the relay just working loose. My pre cat does it all the time, just have to push the relay and that sorts it. Always just intermittant - works, then doesn't, then does, then doesn't...

Yep, LG, it's almost always the park switch or the connectors. I sorted mine last weekend, expecting to need yet another park switch but in fact the switch and it connectors only needed a good clean up.

Would have thought it was the park switch. Mine does the same thing, works fine in normal mode but in delay it stops randomly, a quick flick of the wiper stalk seems to encourage it to go and park up. Will take a look when it stops raining.

It may have always done this, just that I have been using it as a daily driver cos the German diesel is broken. Typical have to use the Griff for work and it rains continually. Got the German diesel back today so the weather should improve.

Having spent 8 months getting parts re-manufactured for this wiper motor and stripping/rebuilding too many, my thoughts are that the park switch is more likley to be a symptom rather than the cause, You will find that the lucas unit is special to TVR...the 29 watt motor has been almost obsolete. I have spent those 8 months getting the original manufacturer to re-make armatures/brush plates and gears along with all the internal plastic parts that fail when the motor siezes and the unit overheats and melts everything.

Not that the park switch is the fault....the park switch is the sympton and not the cause, the units 'lifestyle' of never getting used as "I do not use the car if it rains" does not help either, the switch will exceed the design spec. because the motor gets hot/cold and the internals rust, this rust grips the amature, the load increases, the motor warms up the card within the armature, this dries out, breaks off into the magnet housing, that gets damp and sticks between the armature and the housing. The load is then excessive to the park switch that has been taken off the 14 watt unit, to do the same job on a 29 watt unit. On another forum the point was made that the switch unit could take more than double the 29 watts, in perfect conditions.
