brocken rockers

took the rockers off today to check a few things, before starting to reaasemble all the nice shiney and painted engine bits ect, and found 3 broken rocker faces, going to remove the sump tommorrow to ckeck that no damage has been done to the bottom end with these fragments floating about in the oil, hopefully there are large pieces that have fallen to the botoom of the sump without leaving to much destruction in their wake!

don`t know how long its been like this, got the car last April with full s/h, and already serviced it myself last summer,no funny noises and no problems with performance at all, just goes to show that you never know whats been going on inside!
I don`t think Ive had heard any tell tell tapping ect until it was to late.

there`s certainly never a dull moment with tvr ownership, if I had some jap crap I`d have nothing to do all winter

I had steel rockers put in my Griff to stop this happening again.

this is quite common especially with high lift cams and the std pushrods, you can get one piece cast iron ones which while heavier don't fall to bits

The heavy duty cro-moly pushrods help with this problem as they don't flex as much as std which causes the rocker to 'chatter' against the tip of the valve

Yep relatively common-used to have them bend aswell on the 500

Its a relatively cheap thing to do, V8D do them as do others.

just been underneath and checked the crank ect. all looks okay,and found several large bits laying in the sump, and one big piece still in the top jammed between the head bolt and the head casing.
suprised at how filthy the oil was, its only been in for 4000 miles!

clive,if you find the oil is really dirty check the car is not overfueling,a friendly garage will do a emissions test for a drink.do you do a lot of short journey,s?
