Optimate or Accumate? That is the question.

I've looked at both, they are the same price and seem to do a very similer job.
The only real difference I can see is that Accumate does 6 volt as well.
Anyone have any advice or experience, please.

I go to take my griff in UK in 2 weeks!! and I m also interested, is there a way to connect the conditionner more easily than directly to the battery?? What is the usual connection system used??

I've got an Accumate and and have used it on several cars. It works a treat. It has two options for connecting to the car battery. (1) It can be plugged into the cigar lighter or (2) changed to crocodile clips and attached to the battery direct. If your car is not used regularly IMHO one of these is a must have to keep your battery in good condition.

Be careful about the polarity of the cigarette lighter - I've heard they're wired at random. (And in one case, not at all.)

Good point. Never trust TVR wiring !! One of the reasons why I sold my Griff 500!

I've got an Accumate.

Here's a couple of tips you might find useful

I got about 3mtrs of dual core wire from Maplins and hard wired it to the battery, then ran the cable through to the boot and spliced the accumate connection to the end so there's about 1mtr of cable in the boot.
By doing this I can drop the cable out of the boot to the accumate and still cover the car when its in the garage.

To make the cable in the boot easy to find in the dark I wrapped the end 6 inches in white electrical tape.

The accumate is attached to the garage wall so I have no worries of it overheating and melting anything. I can still shut the boot without issue.

It's attached to the garage wall using velcro and 'sits' on a couple of nails so I can remove it easily. I took it to Le Mans the year before last 'just in case'

If I did the wiring again, I'd try to get bigger cable to the battery so I could attach jump leads to it too, for those occasions when I've been a noddy and not plugged the accumate in hehe

i've just done a killer deal on accumates for our new shop www.tvrmonster.com

It'll be live next week (the shop) and we'll be doing them for £29.99. You won't find them cheaper anywhere else. I've used one for 6 years now. top stuff and just plugs into the ciggy lighter!
plug and play...forget about it. just in time for Xmas
everything for TVRs will be there, trackdays to tyres, parts to driver instruction.

AND you'll be supporting TVR Motorsport!

eek

Firkin Hell, that IS a good price. They're tougher than I though if they can survive falling off the back of a lorry hehe

Taken from their website:

The AccuMate is suitable for all 6 and 12V lead acid batteries from 4Ah to 75Ah, making it perfect for owners of older vehicles which are not used on a daily basis.

versus

OptiMate III - the unique 5-step battery optimiser specially designed for modern 12V starter batteries from 2.5 to 28 Amp-hours capacity. Ideal for motorcycles, ATVs, jet-skis etc.

You need the accumate !

I have used an OXFORD OXIMISER from BikeBitz on my Griff 500 - an excellent product, and great price!

I use an Optimate on the bike and an Accumate on the Griff. Both excellent and both been used for several years with no problems (touch wood).
