Help with Alloys.

Guys,

So far you have offered a wealth of information relating to the repair of my Griffith.

I had an accident within hours of purchasing it and it's still being fixed in one way or another. My last and final problem related to a 4 inch crack on one of the alloys. I have this welded up andf though it was well sorted. I was wrong

On trying to get a new tyre on the wheel I found that it was egged (wonky, potholed......) I'd much prefer to replace the wheell then have it repaired, therefore I was wondering whether or not any of you guys wuld be able to offer adive where I might be able to source one 16" of the following alloys:

I can't really afford to go for a whole new set unfortunately.

The alternative is to repair my existing wheel, I live in Leeds, however the closest place I can find a repair specialist is in Scotland (www.alloywheelrepairs.net). If you know anywhere closer to Leeds I'd appreciate it, I'd also appreciate your comments on whether a repair is safe and worthwhile.

Try Tony Bickerstaff on 01924 259932. been doing wheels for years. does all the garages and all bodyshops for miles around. he will be honest and tell you wheteher it is safe to repair it. He works from home (big garage. Reasonably priced too!

That pattern is the orginal 4.x style and indeed pretty rare, hence the price. Do you want to stay with TVR wheels or move to aftermarket ones?

Ah pity it wasn't one of the 15" Camille Gotti rims you needed instead of a 16" one as I have two spare ones. Try Bellshill or Douglas Valley breakers.

I wanna stay with the originals if at all possible. I shall give Tony a call in the morning on the off chance he can help. I presume it sounds like the sort of stuff he can work on?

Expect to pay a min of £150, possibly up to £250 for ONE WHEEL!!!

They are getting very hard to come by.

Does not sound repairable to me, if you can't get a tyre on it. And not sure I'd want it on my car even if some one said it could be.

There was a bloke I got a couple off a while back...I'll post him to see if he has any more...though won't be able to do so until early jan when I go back.

Yeah I kinda guessed they wouldn't be cheap.

I tried Tony and a guy in York today, unfortunatel it appears that I might have to wait until the holiday period is over!

Marky - it looks like one of the original Amil alloys and having bought a reconditioned set in September I know Bell Hill Garage near Bath did have several sets in but one wheelon its own may carry quite a cost, especially the rear 16s whch I was advised were even rarer.

Arghhhhhhh

Spoke to Tony today, lovely guy but couldn't help me cos I'd had the wheel welded by someone else and he refuses (with good reason) to touch anyone elses work.

I am tyrying to join the TVR car club on the off chance that there may be some for sale by members from there, however they aren't able to process my applicationn before 2/1/07

Can any of you guys suggest anything else?

p.s. On the off chance I can't pick up one 16" alloy I have seen a set on here for £700, do you guys think that 3 wheels will sell seperately? Not looking too make money on them but at least recoupe 75% of the overall cost of 4 (if that makes sense).

There was a set of 5 spokes on ebay recently for £495 that didn't sell. I'm sure they'll come round again. I'd have thought a set of four is worth more than individual wheels, but I'm sure a breaker selling them individually would disagree.

Bought the set that was on Ebay today, picked them up and now I have the wheel I need (all be it at price!!!!!)

So, now the advice I need is how should I sell 3 reconditioned alloy wheels?

Sell them one at a time on ebay - there's always someone looking for a spare to replace a damaged one. If you hit it lucky you could end up with the one you needed for free.
