Newbie / Immobiliser - HELP!!!
Discussion
Hi Folks
Finally got me a Griff ('95 500HC Ocean Haze)
Lovely car, but it let me down on the way home - after a faultless couple of hundred miles at the second petrol stop the immobiliser armed when I was paying, and wouldn'nt switch off whatever I tried.
Called the RAC and guy couldn't figure it out either, so was eventually low-loadered home - what a start to Griffdom!!!!
Question is - I had an Auto Elec look at it but before he rips anything apart he wants to know where the alarm/immobiliser control box is.
It seems to be an original fit Foxguard system - the fob is fine but having no effect, and the little light beside the window switch just wont go out - Help/advice required urgently please!!

Sorry to hear about your problem so early on. The alarm/immobiser receievr is in the drivers wing area. Try looking and unlooking next to the wing. I had a similar problem with mine and kept trying the immobiliser key and finally she fired up. I think that there might be some posts on here as well about disconnecting the battery which should reset the alarm etc if all else fails. I hope this helps and good luck.

Right - the RAC guy tried disconnecting and reconnecting after 5 mins with no effect.
Yesterday I did the same after 2hrs and lo and behold the pump primed and she fired up!
Still got a problem tho as the system now wont arm at all, so cant even get central locking working.
At least I can get a drive now, but any suggestions about the arming/locking - is a new system required and what can I expect to pay?

I believe the alarm ECU is behind the dash somewhere, it's only the siren that is located in the engine bay on the left side wing - I know as I had to replace mine recently.
Speaking to Carl Baker (the TVR alarm guru) he suggested that any issue with these old and no longer trading Foxguard systems should be junked for a newer system. Give him a call, his number is on his website - www.tvruk.tv

Was it armed and wouldn't turn off (as in the indicator blink sequence didn't happen) or was it everything started but the strater motor seemed to be still immobilsed?
If so try the earth cable from the drivers side of the block to the chassis near the steering rack exit point from the body.

Hi OIIOAB
I have the FoxGaurd system & experience the same problem, if you try pressing the
remote buttoms harder it may work (it does with mine), the buttons get a bit tired
with age & (although the red LED illuminates it wont respond /tricks you into thinking
the signal is being sent & to panic etc).
Good Luck

Call Carl Baker of Tvr uk he is the man
The control unit of the alarm could be in a multitude of places.
Carl will know most of them and will know most of the solutions.
Metta is able to stand the under bonnet heat better btw
