broken after 400 miles!!

rebuilt the engine on my 500 early december, new cam, lifters,pushrods, ally rockers and shafts, and after a decent run last weekend found an oil leak on the rocker cover gaskets,these being the rubber ones which I think I shall now bin and replace with the traditional cork ones.
on removing the left side cover I found a rocker pad broken already, after only 400 miles, 350 of which were done last weekend.
I know many of you told me to go for the steel rockers, so here is your chance to say I told you so
I can only assume that this was a faulty rocker from manufacture,the pads do seem to overhang the edge of the rocker face in places, I set the preload 20-50 thou, and double checked to make sure, I`m glad I checked the oil leak though!

As said, at least you know the bits are not elsewhere in the engine. It is very impressive that you seem to have taken the assembly inside and placed it on the best cushion off the sofa to take the pic. Obviously this is only right and proper with bits of Griff, I currently have a pair of Nitrons as a hall table ornament.
Hi Clive, was there any noise that you noticed? reason I ask is that I think something is rattling around my engine plus hesitation under load.
Engine was rebuilt by V8D 14K ago with steel rocker assemblies, guess I will find out in the next couple of weeks, Automedon collecting next week....would, nevertheless, appreciate any comments..?!
