headlight diode?

Hi All
Have had a diode burn out on the headlight circuit where it leaves (or enters)the fuse box , causing really odd faults with headlights and assosiated dash lights . local specialist has been trying to obtain part so far without success , does anybody no if this part can be obtained elsewhere like maplins or what to look for , or is it specific to TVR . Any help gratefully received .

I might have a spare to bind you over, I'll have a look in the harness black bag tomorrow if you want. Is it the round one like a watch battery thats taped to the main loom @6-12" from the fusebox connectors?

Thanks for reply , from what was left of it it it appeared to be an oblong black plastic type thingy (tech speak) about 6-12" from fuse box .It ended up pretty much molten plastic so a bit wary of borrowing an item in case it goes the same way . if its got any I.D. on it , may be useful .

I didn't know the headlight circuit had a diode, just as a matter of interest does know what it does?

Without digging out & tracing thru my home made wiring diags, I think its something to do with the flash, & prob only on pushbutton light switch models.

I'm going to search when I've had my cup of tea (its a big one ~ I need refreshing before ad venturing into the dangerous depths of my scavenged wiring store).

The thingy does show on ther bible wiring diagram , something making sure the voltage can only go one way wants past it , or of course i could be talking bollox .

I found 4 in by sack... 3 are solid black rectangular diodes with fixed male & female blades at either end. The other is a disk (no markings @4mm thick & 6mm diameter) with soldered contacts on each end which lead 2 male blades at each end ~ IIRC this one was connected to the lights bit, I've been carving bits up gradually :-)

If you reckon its the rectangular ones I have 2 @10x7x5mm & 1 @20x10x7mm; markings are:
Lucas RD 953048 (the 2 smaller ones) & Lucas 83225A _ 7348 _ RD 953048

pretty sure it would be the long rectangular one , consider swapping for some drinking vouchers ?

It's odd, but for some reason when I rewired the lights on my Griff, I didn't use the diode at all - and everything works as it should... I can't remember what I did differently.
