Exhaust mod - here the difference

I have no connection with the garage that did this modification (before anyone asks 
) but I thought it would be of interest for others to hear the difference between the standard 500 exhaust note and the modified 500 exhaust note.
This was taken when I had a faulty air flow meter. Hope this is why it seems a little smokey.

Cherry Bombs have been around for 30 years or more. They used to be one of the first upgrade you did to your Mk II Escort or Nova!
I heard one that you can cut open the middle box, remove the perforated pipe and replace with the Cherry Bomb, then do the original box back up ... exhaust modification officer? I don't think so, it all looks standard to me
Lots of places like Demon Tweaks stock Cherries ... try looking in a copy of Max Power or Performance Car type mags.

I thought the Offords conversion was done in the box?
The ACT system has visible Cherries.
A Cherry Bomb is a different type of silencer. The standard silencer is a traditional shaped box, around 28" or so long, with perforated pipes inside it, surrounded by Sound deadening Packing. The cherry bomb is a much smaller cylinder that goes around a shorter perforated pipe. One around each pipe in the system. It changes the vloume and tone of the exhaust.
IIRC Cherry Bomb was a conversion offered by a company in the 60's and has now become the term for these type of silencers. Kindo of like Hoover (not the guy with the loud Red Griff) and Vacuum Cleaners.

The 4000rpm rattled my notebook noticeably compared to the 400rpm stock pipes, so it does seem a tad louder! (SCientific test that one!). I LOVE the sound at tickover though, its exactly the sound I want. The automotive equivalent of "you looking at me?"
