Despite being told
shout Don't sell it! , the wedge will be going to a new home shortly.

Which means I am after a Griff party

Is there much difference between engines? At the moment, I can only see 4.0's and 4.3's around for the money I can afford to spend. Is there a lot of difference in peformance? Would I be best off waiting until a 5.0 comes along (or would a 5.0 come along at this price)?

Can anyone vouch for the condition of either of these cars:
1 www.pistonheads.com/sales/123044.htm
2 www.pistonheads.com/sales/117653.htm

Please feel free to Private Mail me if you'd rather not post your comments on what you know about these 2 cars in the eyes of a public forum...

Edited to say - "Do I need power steering"? My first wedge did not have power steering and it was near impossible to manouvre at parking speeds.

Any info would be very greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
L33.

The first one is mine !!

If you want an independant view of it give Perry at the V8 centre in High Wycombe a call. I've just started using them for my servicing and he's had a good look round my car. Its also known to people like Oggs and Gbbird on PH.

Its going in this week for one of the front calipers to be refurbed, have recently found it to be sticking. Also having the front light perspex covers removed and re-fitted at same time. Its due a service but if i still have it it will be done at the start of Feb.

If you want to know anything please give me a call, will be happy to talk you though any aspect of the car...

MMMMM precats, both look lovely.

Lots of people say there is a huge difference between the 4.0 and the 5.0, not only the extra 60 odd bhp.
But the way they feel.

I am sure some 500 owners will be along to tell us what the differences are.
To my knowledge its just brakes and a rear ARB?

clap Good choice! You will find a 500 for between 10 and 11k if that's what you are after. I did. Don't be put off by a few miles as long as the car has been well looked after and the history is good. I have never driven the 4.0 or 4.3 but there an awful lot of happy owners out there. Strangely, the guy I bought my Griff off went back to a wedge. Happy hunting. CRAIG

If you haven't yet driven a 500 and will be buying a 4.0/4.3 DON'T!

You will be more than happy with the latter choices and ownership but once you have driven a 500 it can be very difficult to live with the 'slower' versions. Albeit you can get 'slow' 500's and 'quick' 4.0's! (notwithstanding BV's which are outside of this budget/topic?). Happy hunting.....

How about a 95/N 500?

In the best spec - 340 BHP serpentine engine with T5 gearbox and power steering. 60,000 miles with full srvice history (14 stamps in the book - all main dealer bar one at Tower View). All MOT certificates. Sports exhaust AND pre cats removed (passes emissions tests and sounds...hmmmnnn).

Silver stardust metallic (silver with the meerest hint of blue) with navy blue hood, leather seats, wool carpets and cirrus white dials. The hood has recently been 'renewed', is in very good condition and has a completely clear rear screen.

It has also had some subtle enhancements from Leven (interior upgrades), ACT (silicone hoses and stainless coolant pipes), Mod-Wise (starter solenoid upgrade) and Steve Heath (anti roll bar drop links). An Optimate trickle charger is mounted in the boot.

The car is in extremely good condition, price would depend on the inclusion / exclusion of private plate '500 XWM'.

Lee,

I drove a 4.0L before buying a 500 and wouldn't buy a 4.0L now

I think you should hold out for a 500 ! Early 500s are about between £11K and £12K; less if the seller is desparate to sell.

If I can help, drop me a mail. Your welcome to have a look round mine and I can point out the problem areas.

just to add confusion....

I drove a 500 and 4.3 back to back - the 500 didnt last more than a few miles before returning it - 4.3 = big grin -- 500 all torque and 1/2 the character

engine builders and the factory agree the 4.3 is the best configuration bar none - certainly the best sounding at any revs

didnt like psteer either - too pointy and far too easy to unsettle rear - also doesnt need it apart from girls parking them..

I'd disagree - and I had a 4.3 for 6 years..

A good standard 500 is better all round (not much better - but still better) than a good standard 4.3,

Note I said Good & Standard.

IF you do get the back end moving, it IS a LOT easier to catch it with PAS (been there found ditch - 4.3)
What it sounds like is a bit max-power.

Try both and you should get the one with the chassis in the best condition
